National Scale

Striving to support marine conservation science and policy in my own country has proved to be amongst the greatest challenges I ever had to face. Increasing public awareness of the presence of marine life worthy of attention and caring has been a painstakingly slow process. Dealing with the decision-makers community has been the most frustrating of all, because the power struggle amongst players at all levels normally prevails over the commitment of doing something good for the country and its environment.

In my tribulations, however, I have often run into the most extraordinary and committed individuals – a reminder of the untapped potential that remains hidden amongst Italy’s wrinkles.
